INVITATION TO THE LAND OF ARTS
It may seem a paradox to many for the military to be interested in art, as an implicit gesture, as a
direct assumption, as a protective attitude, also taking into consideration the famed saying that in the face
of weaponry,
muses maintain their silence
. Well, always feeding this paradox, from its inauguration,
The
Palace of the National Military Circle
has been a good host to the sensitive spirit, being justly considered
a true
home for the arts.
This architectural jewel, which has become in time one of the symbols of
Bucharest, a work of art in itself of Romanian architecture from the beginning of the previous century, gene-
rously hosts important artistic events. Alongside interpretational, music or literature show, arts have also
found an ideal place here, a warm and inviting area that rivals any art gallery in the country, with no
exaggeration necessary. It is the place in which muses have always expressed themselves with talent and
expansiveness. Painting exhibits have always attracted the most representative artists, the most loyal
patrons of the arts. Thus, the National Military Circle has been enriched with valuable things that have been
added to the patrimony, as well as the collection of paintings presented in this album, that includes
paintings given as gifts by artists who have presented themselves to the public through our exhibit halls. In
the pages that follow you will, thus, see a representative synthesis of contemporary Romanian paintings.
