CERCUL MILITAR NAŢIONAL
Not without some difficulties, the halls of the Palace
eventually returned to their native destination, gain-
ing a plus of functionality through the improvements
brought to the interior and the cancelation of unre-
lated activities. In addition, the “Hall of Founders” was
created, where the busts of Generals Vasile Zottu and
Nicolae Filipescu were placed alongside the portraits
of Kings Carol I and Ferdinand and Queens Elisabeta
and Maria, who all have contributed, inclusively by
donations, to the well-functioning of the Military Club
from the Bucharest garrison.
During the celebrations of 125 years and 130 years
since its inception (in 2001 and 2006, respectively) and
of 80 years since the inauguration of the Palace (in
2003), the institution organized ample manifestations
to mark the event (solemn meetings, scientific ses-
sions, the “Open Doors Day”). In addition, numerous
works, albums and brochures were published about
the history of the Military Club and of the Palace, and
diplomas were conferred to both former employees
and close collaborators. At the same time, the public
radio and television stations broadcasted programs
that invoked the history and activity of the National
Military Club, etc. All these helped to better under-
stand an institution with a long tradition, going back
to the second half of the 19
th
century, and to boost its
prestige in the life of the capital and within the ranks
of the Romanian army.
